Joe serves as Partner and Managing Director at Geller. Joe has over 20 years of experience in income tax and family wealth planning for high-net-worth individuals and families, business owners, and senior executives. In addition to developing integrated tax planning strategies, Joe has extensive experience in tax compliance including gift and estate tax returns, as well as income tax returns for fiduciaries, individuals, and related entities.
Joe is responsible for working with clients to implement customized estate planning strategies that use techniques such as sales to grantor trusts, generation-skipping dynasty trusts, closely held family entities, grantor retained annuity trusts, charitable split-interest trusts, and private foundations. He also advises clients on pre-immigration tax planning, outbound expatriation, foreign entities, and trusts.
Prior to joining Geller, Joe worked at Andersen Tax as a Managing Director. He negotiated favorable settlements in many federal and state income, estate, and gift tax examinations. Joe also helped clients obtain private letter rulings from the IRS on matters, such as generation-skipping transfer tax issues.
Joe received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Bowling Green State University and earned a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Additionally, Joe has authored several articles, on topics related to translating foreign activities reporting, converting to Roth IRAs, navigating the estate and gift tax maze, evaluating the tax impact of legal fees, and gifting opportunities.
